Eggless chocolate chip cookies


When I tried chocolate chip cookies for the first time ,I was instantly in love with them. Every time I eat them, my thoughts wanders off about the person who made these delicious yet simple looking cookies(trust me they just looks simple :P) and how Ruth Graves Wakefield, the great chef who brought these wonderful love bites in our lives, invented the famous chocolate chip cookies..
As every innovation has a mysterious story behind it..the story about the invention of the chocolate chip cookies was also along the similar lines.While going through many pages on goggle, I found different versions of how the delicious cookies came into existence..
One of the most popular story being that Ruth ran out of nuts for the regular cookies recipe and added small chunks of Nestle chocolates , other being that , she ran out of the regular baking chocolate while making chocolate cookies and added the chopped chunks of Nestle chocolate bar hoping that the chocolate will melt,they did not and the chocolate chip cookie was born.
Though none of the stories seemed true to me, from what I have read about Ruth Graves Wakefield , she was a perfectionist and an awesome baker with a degree in household arts. Ruth wouldn’t have served something in her restaurant that she accidentally made in her kitchen or allowed her restaurant to to run out of such essential ingredients as bakers’ chocolate or nuts. In some of the cookbooks it is mentioned that Ruth knew enough about the properties of chocolate to realize it would not melt and mix into the batter while baking.
While reading soo much about the cookies, i was also tempted to try them and made my first batch.. As for the verdict.. my family loved them :).. Try it yourself.. I am sure after reading about the cookies, you must be craving for one now.. 😛


Recipe for chocolate chip cookies:


  • 1 cup All purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup Choco chip
  • 4 tbsp white powdered Sugar
  • 1 tbsp dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Butter(unsalted)
  • 1/4 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tbsp Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla essence 


  1. In a bowl, sieve the flour, baking soda and baking powder and mix well .
  2. In another mixing bowl, take sugar and butter( at room temperature). Meanwhile pre heat oven to 170 deg. C.Beat it until you get a creamy texture, whisk it for about 4-5 minutes. Add vanilla essence, choco chips, milk to it.
  3. Add the mixed flour to it and gather everything to make a dough.Divide the dough into small balls. Flatten the balls over a cookie tray lined with butter paper with enough space in between as the cookie tend to expand. Baking time is around 15 – 20 minutes.Keep an eye after 15 minutes and bake until golden in colour.

Recipe source: , Her recipe calls for 6 tbsp of sugar , which i replace with 4 tbsp of white sugar and 1 tbsp of dark brown sugar..

Note: If you don’t have brown sugar, make the cookies with 6 tbsp of white sugar.. 🙂
